World Bonsai Convention

Bonsai events held in Japan generally is a display of bonsai masterpieces. As bonsai gained international popularity, foreign bonsai events shifted their style to where enthusiasts gather to exchange information and invite masters from Japan to hold workshops.The Bonsai Convention started off in such way. Soon, the conventions expanded to America and European nations and kept growing in scale. In the midst of its growing popularity, the first World Bonsai Convention was held in Japan, the home of bonsai, in April 1989.This convention was hosted by Japan Bonsai Association at Saitama Prefecture, Saitama City (former Omiya City), where the Omiya Bonsai Village is located, and achieved great success as the largest convention with over 1200 participants. The World Bonsai Convention was later decided to be held every four years and has been hosted by America, Korea, Germany, Puerto Rico, China, and in 2017, after 28 years of the first hosting, back in Japan.

    MASAHIKO KIMURA
    Nippon Bonsai Association, Executive Director

    Has made demonstrations around the world. He is called the Magician of Bonsai from his outstanding technique and ingenious ideas. He has received the Prime Minister’s Award and Kokufu Award. Yellow Ribbon Medal for industriousness in 2006, Director General of the Agency for Cultural Affairs Award in 2007.

  • HIROSHI TAKEYAMA PORTRAIT

    HIROSHI TAKEYAMA
    World Bonsai Friendship Federation, Treasurer

    Former Executive Director of Nippon Bonsai Association. He is known as the leading person in Zouki Bonsai and is recognized by his sensitive style. He has served as the instructor in NHK’s bonsai television program with his popular gentle narration. He has taught many workshops around the world. Awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays in 2013.

    Nippon Suiseki Association, Chairman

    Authority in the suiseki world, Kobyashi also runs a bonsai garden. He makes great efforts in spreading bonsai by going overseas, accepting foreign trainees, and appearing on many media. He has been awarded many bonsai awards.

    SHINJI SUZUKI
    Nippon Bonsai Association, Director

    A spirited artist who serves the director for Nippon Bonsai Association, Nippon Bonsai Kumiai, and Nippon Suiseki Association concurrently. He has been awarded the Prime Minister’s Award for a record of five times. Experienced in demonstrating globally.

World Bonsai Convention Saitama

The exhibition of the world's greatest and most prestigious
which collected the best of the Japanese bonsai and suiseki will be held.

The Japan Bonsai Suiseki Greatest Exhibition will be held in Saitama Super Arena so that bonsai fans can appreciate Japan's highest class bonsai and suiseki masterpieces. More than 300 bonsai, satsuki, shohin, and suiseki masterpieces wil lbe displayed, and there will also be some special exhibitions. There will be an extensive sales area with professionals dealing in varied bonsai goods:trees, stands, tools, pots, etc...Besides, various on-stage events, including demonstrations by bonsai artists from all over the world, will be showcased to participants.
